Norton approved funds for the HS Feasibility Study ... thanks to all that came to Town Meeting to support this article.

Project Overview

The town of Norton is in the early planning stages of a potential Norton High School repair, renovation, and/or addition project.  As we move through the process, we will keep updates posted to this website.  We are excited that the state School Building Authority has selected Norton High School to enter the next phase, and are appreciative for the opportunity to upgrade our building to meet the needs of the town for decades to come utilizing this state grant program.  A range of 54-60% of all costs of the project will be reimbursed upon completion.

The project scope includes (evaluation and repair/renovation of):
windows, heating/ventilation, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, roof, accessibility, ceiling/flooring tiles, asbestos, fire/safety, classrooms, science labs, technology, gym space and locker rooms, storage, cafeteria/kitchen, auditorium, general space needs, music/band, and restrooms.   An addition will also be studied.

To proceed with this project, funding will need to be approved at the June 7th town meeting for the Feasibility Study and Schematic Design phase (FS/SD).  An article will be on the special town meeting warrant (8pm).  This will likely involve funding to be created through long term borrowing, and will not require an override to fund.  The total cost will be up to $600,000, of which the state will reimbursement Norton 54%.  This puts the net cost to Norton at less than $276,000, to be spread over several years.  This FS/SD phase is required by the MSBA for project support and grant approval.   To be considered for grant funding, Norton needs to adhere to the strict FS/SD requirements.

More information on this Feasibility Phase is available on the Feasibility Phase page.
